Netflix tar sig an "The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson"
Efter premiären av den hyllade dokumentären "The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson" meddelar Netflix att de har köpt upp rättigheterna till filmen.
Det var i ett pressmeddelande som streamingbolaget meddelade att de hade införskaffat rättigheterna till David Frances hyllade dokumentär The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson. Filmen, som handlar om mordet på den ikoniske transpersonen Marsha P. Johnson, mottags väl på premiären på Tribeca Film Festival.
Marsha P. har beskrivits som HBTQ-rörelsens svar på Rosa Parks och filmen beskrivs som kraftfull och hemsökande. The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson är David Frances första film sedan han Oscarsnominerades med How to Survive a Pleague från 2012.
"Almost single-handedly, Marsha P. Johnson and her best friend Sylvia Rivera touched off a revolution in the way we talk about gender today,” said David France. “Their names should be household words. But Marsha’s life was cut tragically short and Sylvia died shortly thereafter, the victim of a broken heart. Getting to know their story through the investigation undertaken by Victoria Cruz, a seminal activist in her own right, has been one of the great honors of my career. Now, with Netflix as our distribution partner, I am confident the legacy of these tremendous women will never be forgotten.”

Filmen planeras att distribueras på Netflix senare i år.
